Angela !

Dame Angela Lansbury - how does she keep on going? She was very spry and marvellous at those Olivier Awards in London (screened here last night). She is going on 90 - and when you look at her career she must have worked with just about everybody ....
Here, again, she is with the Harrisons - Rex and Kay - back in 1958 as the English society matron in Minnelli's THE RELUCTANT DEBUTANTE, the same year she was that Deep South mistress of Orson in THE LONG HOT SUMMER .... lots more Angela at her label.  Here's an interesting fact: the actress Diane Clare who played her debutante daughter in the 1958 film died a couple of years ago, while Angela just goes on and on.
It was great to see her on stage acting with Dame Peggy Ashcroft at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Albee's ALL OVER in 1972, and she did a terrific Q&A session at the BFI in 1973, somehow I missed her Gertrude to Albert Finney's HAMLET ...

  1. I'm kicking myself that I didn't go over to London to see her in BLITHE SPIRIT. She is a marvel.

  2. She's a treasure for sure. Unfortunately I've never seen her on stage but I've seen all her films, except The Hoodlum Saint, and she makes all of them better whether the films themselves are good or bad. Hope she stays active and vital for a long time.
