And here is a nice photo of Projector favourite Kay Kendall, taken by Cecil Beaton - see post on him below, with Gary Cooper. Beaton also did some portraits of Rex Harrison (and Audrey Hepburn and Gladys Cooper) on the set of MY FAIR LADY in 1964. Kay died in 1959 - here are some other nice shots of her, which are new to me.
Such effortless elegance! I could watch her in The Reluctant Debutante once a week and never tire of it or her.
ReplyDeleteLes Girls for Cukor in 1957 is essential Kay too, that drunk scene! also her British films like Genevieve, Simon and Laura and The Constant Husband, her first with Rex and you can see they are smitten with each other. She looks painfully frail in Once More With Feeling 1959, just before she died - but at least she got to work with stylists like Cukor, Minnelli and Donen who were able to showcase her comic glamour perfectly.
ReplyDeleteKay's death at the height of her career was one of our great losses. Thank God for film.
