A life in film - or the films in my life ...

I was reading on IMDB how some people file all their dvds alphabetically. That would not work for me at all, in fact it would drive me nuts - having to constantly re-arrange for one thing, when you add new titles. I like mine filed chronologically, starting with the 1920s onward (there are 1 or 2 earlier titles) into the 1930s and '40s and '50s - thats all in one cabinet, up to about 1958.
Cabinet 2 continues and is basically the 1960s - 1958 to 1968/70; some years (like 1959, 1962) have over 25 titles each
Shelf unit 3 (in a bedroom) continues with Z and THE CONFORMIST covering 1970 onwards - here the '70s take up a shelf and a half, then the '80s and '90s into the 2000s ....
Then we have a shelf unit for recent/current stuff ...plus box sets, European stuff, costume dramas
and another with tv/comedy on top shelf, and lower shelf is music, music, music ....
Works for me ! - these first 3 units are in different rooms, so its not too overwhelming !

  1. The next step is to rip them and install them on a big external hard drive. It takes much less space and they're available to view with a few clicks!

  2. Yes of course dvds are history now - well not quite as much as those clunky video-cassettes we burdened ourselves with. But its like downloading music, which only exists on your device. For me its not really real unless you have the cd in your hand!
