Broads

I have long cherished this 1969 paperback  BROADS pubished in the UK by MOVIE Magazine (post on that at Magazine label), its probably out of print now but if you ever come across a copy grab it with both hands. I still have mine.

This is a nice round up (contents, right) of those Hollywood actresses (up to late '60s, natch) who specialised in not being ladies. A gallery then of lady heavies, gangsters' molls, tarts with or without hearts of gold, bar-room girls and other assorted floozies; lots of great stills too, as lovingly detailed by Ian and Elixabeth Cameron.

The big names are here for their Broads roles: Hayward, Hayworth, Gardner, Novak, Remick, Stanwyck, Winters etc. and those second-tier names you would expect: Rhonda, Arlene, Yvonne De Carlo., plus a selection of B-girls not covered elsewhere. The only omissions I can think of are Diana Dors and  Virginia Mayo, and maybe Anne Baxter ....

So pardon me while I browse again Eve Arden, Joanna Barnes, Linda Darnell, Tuesday Weld, Anne Francis, Joi Lansing,  Carolyn Jones, Joan Shawlee, Stella Stevens, etc.

MOVIE magazine also did a sister paperback on Antonioni, another must re-read.
