From my back pages continued ..... those Lux soap advertisements. Here Kay Kendall and Jean Simmons reveal the secret of their "satin smooth and glowing complexion" .... Kay also lends her name to promoting a new Timex watch!
and here is a 1955 first feature about that new Italian actress going places, Sophia Loren. ("You talk about Gina ... You know about Silvana ... but in her own country its Sophia Loren who's creating the biggest stir of all.") who had 4 films opening that year: WOMAN OF THE RIVER, TOO BAD SHE'S BAD, GOLD OF NAPLES and THE SIGN OF VENUS, and she was still 20 and soon going into American films .... Gina and Silvana had better watch out ! I saw WOMAN OF THE RIVER then and was entranced myself, I was about 12 - and its been fun seeing TOO BAD SHE'S BAD and GOLD OF NAPLES more recently I bet Sophia plugged Lux soap too !
