Dino De Laurentiis 1919 - 2010

I like a lot of his '50s international co-productions, which I seem to have grown up on, usually starring his wife Silvana Mangano: THE TEMPEST, THE SEA WALL/THIS ANGRY AGE (left), MAMBO etc. and the King Vidor WAR AND PEACE in '56. Like Carlo Ponti he is part of that great era of Italian cinema and studios like Cinecetta and Titanus, as I have written about here previously (see Silvana Mangano label etc).

His list of credits stretch back to the '40s and encompass the history of Italian cinema since then, in collaborations with Ponti, producing for Fellini (LA STRADA etc), and those titles like ULYSSES, ATTILA, BITTER RICE, GOLD OF NAPLES, Loren's WOMAN OF THE RIVER, 5 BRANDED WOMEN, BARABBAS and '60s classics like DANGER DIABOLIK, BARBARELLA, FRAULEIN DOKTOR as well as the later DUNE and FLASH GORDON and THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR after his move to American productions. Perhaps the last of the great producers, Ponti (also in his 90s) having died in 2007.
