Movie Stars !

I was always fascinated by the European and English stars: Sophia Loren, when I was 12 I saw WOMAN OF THE RIVER and began seeing all her films, loving BOY ON A DOLPHIN, LEGEND OF THE LOST, HOUSEBOAT, IT STARTED IN NAPLES, THE MILLIONAIRESS, EL CID, TWO WOMEN, YESTERDAY TODAY & TOMORROW, MARRIAGE ITALIAN STYLE, etc. Good to see her, if only briefly, in NINE. She started out so young, it was good to see TOO BAD SHE'S BAD (her first with Mastroianni and De Sica, when she was 19) recently, she was only in her early 20s when starring with the likes of Wayne, Ladd, Grant, Gable etc. (Good to have met her in 1979).

Romy Schneider, from when I saw her SISSI films when young ..... she is amazing in some of those French films and in Chabrol's INNOCENTS WITH DIRTY HANDS, Tavernier's DEATHWATCH.

Monica Vitti - the Antonioni films and her later comedies - good to catch up with them now.

Anouk Aimee, Stephane Audran, Isabelle Adjani, Ingrid Thulin, Lilli Palmer, Gina Lollobrigida, Silvana Mangano etc.

Julie Christie, Faye Dunaway, Deborah Kerr, Jean Simmons, Ava Gardner, and all the rest as detailed on my profile. Dirk Bogarde, James Mason, Trevor Howard, Cary Grant, Robert de Niro, Jeff Hunter, David Hemmings etc.

Marilyn Monroe - my first sight of her was in that red bathing suit in How to Marry A Millionaire, and that multi-mirror shot, her face on all those 50s movie magazines, then The Misfits and the whole MM thing, like James Dean. There were also Anita Ekberg and England's Belinda Lee ....

And of course the classics like Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, Jean Arthur, Jane Greer, Ida Lupino, Susan Hayward, as well as Lee Remick, Genevieve Bujold, the sublime Kay Kendall, Joan Greenwood.

Cyd Charisse! Julie Harris ! Anne Baxter ! Linda Darnell ! Gene Tierney ! Carole Lombard !

It was great back in the early 70s when a lot of these older stars were still active and appearing to discuss their work at London's National Film Theatre, where I saw the likes of Bogarde, Mason, Huston, Heston, Remick, Lansbury, Harrison, Davis, De Havilland, and got the chance to meet Dirk Bogarde, Heston etc.
