Oscars

Done and dusted for another year ... and all very predictable. Delighted Woody got another one for MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, but I still don't want to see THE IRON LADY. Harvey Weinstein scores again!

Best female performance not
nominated: Charlize Theron YOUNG ADULT.

Most over-looked male performance: Dominic Cooper in THE DEVIL'S DOUBLE - perhaps the film just was not good enough or not enough support behind it.

My star of the night: Glenn Close looking absolutely sensational ! She won on the red carpet ...

Surely for consideration next year: Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Tilda Swinton ... and Michelle Williams will be another contender ...

  1. I agree with all your comments, but Fassbender and Gosling should have been under consideration THIS year! It chafes me that Streep now has 3 Oscars and Glenn Close has 0. Its not that I think "Albert Nobbs" actually looks good (neither does "Iron Lady"), but how can that tally be justified?

  2. Its ironic that Meryl got her latest for a film that polarises viewers but is not very good by any standards .... I would have thought it was much more of a challenge for Williams to take on Marilyn Monroe than for Streep to mimic a near-forgotten British prime minister.

Carey Mulligan and Tilda Swinton should also have been on this year's list - but Meryl, George, Brad etc are all over-exposed now so they should have a quiet year or two and leave the field to the newer talent!
